Shanghai, planned by someone who lives here

Your one
night, planned
by a local.

Tell us the food, music and pace you're after. A Shanghai local writes the evening around it — times, places, what to book — usually within a day. Free while we're in pilot.

SHANGHAI AFTER DARK01 / THE CITY IS OPEN
THE IDEA01 — 04

One free evening.
A whole city
of ways to fill it.

You don't need a tour guide. You need a local who can turn “a proper Shanghainese dinner, then something good” into five hours that actually work.

Send us the date, the budget and the things you'd rather skip. We come back with times, places, what to book and how to get there. Want company? A local can come along.

A

Eat somewhere you'd come back for.

A family noodle counter, a proper long dinner, dumplings at midnight. Chosen for your appetite and budget, not a tourist menu.

B

Catch what's on that night.

Jazz, English stand-up, a gallery open late, a market that only runs at weekends. We check what is actually happening on your date.

C

Or bring a local along.

Someone to order, translate, get you past the door and take you somewhere you would never find on your own.

A NIGHT, FOR EXAMPLE02 — 04

Start with dinner.
Improvise after.

One example, not a fixed route. Yours starts with what you tell us.

A Shanghai food stall with its menu and vendor at night
Food first. The rest can wait.
ONE POSSIBLE EVENING ↘

Dinner worth the detour

A Shanghainese table chosen for what you actually like eating.

Whatever's on that night

A jazz set, English stand-up, or streets that only wake up after dark.

One more stop, or bed

A quiet bar, a late dumpling, or a car back to the hotel. You set the pace.

HOW IT WORKS03 — 04

Three details.
Then a plan.

WHAT THE PLAN CONTAINS

  • TimingWhat happens when, and how long it takes to get there.
  • PlacesNames and addresses in English and Chinese, ready to show a driver.
  • BookingsThe two or three things worth reserving, and how far ahead.
  • A plan BWhere to go instead if it rains or the set is sold out.
01

Tell us the night

Date, how many of you, budget, what you're into. A rough idea is plenty.

02

We write the plan

A Shanghai local shapes the evening and replies personally, usually within a day.

03

Go alone or take a host

Use the plan yourself, or ask for a local to come along. Nothing is booked for you unless you say so.

YOUR TURN04 — 04

So, what are
you in the
mood for?

A few useful answers.

Still wondering? Ask in the form.

Is the plan really free?+

Yes, for now. We're building our first reviews, so planning is free and there is no payment step. If you want a local host to join you, we'll quote that separately.

Do I need to book a local host?+

No. Plenty of travelers take the plan and go alone. If you'd like company for part of the night, say so in the form.

How quickly do you reply?+

Usually within a day. If your night is in the next 48 hours, tell us in the notes and we'll answer it first.

Can you work around plans I already have?+

Yes. Tell us what's fixed and how much of the evening is still free, and we'll plan around it.

What if I don't drink or like clubs?+

Then we won't send you to one. Food, jazz, comedy, markets, late-night streets and an early night all count.
